Private pilot Blake Crosby, who flies a Piper PA-32 Cherokee Six, posted images of his flight path online, showing that it was in the shape of a heart.

North Dakota lawmakers are considering a fuels tax hike to help pay for improvements to roads and bridges.
The House Finance and Taxation Committee on Monday voted 9-5 to endorse House Bill 1464, which would result in a tax increase of 6 cents per gallon on motor vehicle fuel sold in North Dakota. The panel of lawmakers amended the original proposal, which sought a 4 cent increase.
The amended bill also would require electric and hybrid vehicle drivers to pay a road use fee more than double the existing level. The measure next moves to the full House for consideration. I don t think anybody sitting here enjoys the need to raise any tax, but what are we to do? said Rep. Craig Headland, R-Montpelier, who chairs the committee. We have roads that are crumbling and we haven t had an increase in 16 years.

The North Dakota League of Cities is sponsoring a statewide If I Were Mayor essay contest for third and seventh grade students.
Students may submit essays on their own or through their classroom teacher. Submission requirements can be found at www.ndlc.org/essay. If I Were Mayor contest winners receive a $150 cash prize and have their essay featured in the League’s publication, CITYScan. The winners will be announced during City Government Week, April 5-9. Essays must address why the student feels their community is great and what they would do to improve their city if they were mayor.

Each spring the North Dakota League of Cities sponsors a statewide If I Were Mayor essay contest for third- and seventh-grade students. The contest encourages young people to think about public service and future community leadership.
Students in their essay must address why they feel their community is great and what they would do to improve their city if they were mayor.
“It’s important to help our youth understand how city government touches their lives every day,” said Blake Crosby, NDLC executive director. “This essay contest is a great way to begin that dialogue.”
