20 bison re-introduced to Poundmaker Cree Nation Kelly Skjerven © Courtesy Blaine Favel Poundmaker Cree Nation is hoping to grow their recently acquired bison herd by the 100s after welcoming them back to the community on Feb. 19. Poundmaker Cree Nation is celebrating a big moment for the community after 20 bison were re-introduced to the area. This is the first time a herd of this size has lived on the land in more than 150 years, following annihilation of the species after colonization. Blaine Favel, band member and former chief of Poundmaker, said the community acquired the bison through a federal government and Parks Canada program.
