Transformation of iconic Blackburn building to go ahead thanks to £1 5bn Government funding share

Blackburn College’s Victoria Building will be re-developed using the grant after the college demonstrated the need for Government investment. This investment forms part of the Government’s £1.5bn Further Education Capital Transformation Fund and Blackburn College is one of 16 institutions across the UK to receive a share of the funding. The college’s Victoria Building will be completely re-developed as part of a project to ensure the building and facilities support the skills needs of the local labour market and can contribute to local economic regeneration and the levelling-up of skills.

Asif Khan announced as new Head of Blackburn Sixth Form

Asif Khan THE new head of Blackburn Sixth Form says he is looking forward to welcoming students to the centre in the coming year. Asif Khan will officially begin his role in May and will lead the £1m redeveloped centre due to open in September.  The college says the new, dedicated A-Level study centre will have ‘an enhanced tutorial model, work experience weeks linking in with major employers and support for parents’.  The Sixth Form centre will also have direct progression routes to Russell Group Universities, aiming to get students prepared for the Oxford University, Cambridge University, Durham University and more.

Nelson man appointed as new head of Blackburn Sixth Form

Asif Khan Asif Khan (40) will officially begin his role at Blackburn Sixth Form in May and arrives with a wealth of experience from his time on the Senior Leadership Team at St Mary’s College, and before that Accrington Academy. Asif will lead the brand-new, redeveloped Blackburn Sixth Form, which will open in September. Asif said: “I am excited to head up Blackburn’s newest Sixth Form and looking forward to helping bring a completely dedicated A-Level study centre to the Blackburn College campus. “This is a wonderful opportunity for students who are interested in Academic Studies and studying at a top University to achieve their goals with us in a safe environment that will have new study spaces and learning areas, refreshed classrooms and common room areas.”
