Google s professional certificates train people without four-year degrees for entry-level tech jobs.
It hopes the programs will unlock more diverse talent pools that Big Tech has routinely overlooked.
But experts say it s unclear whether the programs will translate to more diverse hiring.
Monique Harley was a 27-year-old single mother working an hourly-wage job at a call center outside Washington, DC, when she learned about Google s online certification program in IT support. Harley had a natural aptitude for science, but most of what she knew about computers she had learned from watching YouTube. She decided to go for it.
