Vice President for Inclusive Excellence William Welburn to retire

MILWAUKEE Dr. William Welburn, vice president for inclusive excellence for the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, will retire on Aug. 31, 2021, after 12 years of service to Marquette University. Welburn has been responsible for leading the campus’ direction on diversity, equity and inclusion by working with other campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students on envisioning a more inclusive Marquette. These efforts have included diversity and inclusion planning, serving as goal steward for the Culture of Inclusion strategic theme in the university’s plan,  Beyond Boundaries, and leading institutional efforts to conduct two campus wide climate studies.

Image: Milwaukee campus of Marquette University, pictured in summer 2019 (CNS/Courtesy of Marquette University) Students voting in a referendum at Marquette University last week issued a resounding endorsement for the Jesuit school to divest its $693 million endowment from stocks in the fossil fuel industry, and now await a response from school officials. In a nonbinding vote at the Milwaukee school on April 22, Earth Day, undergraduates overwhelmingly supported a five-year divestment plan, with 87% voting yes. Roughly 24% of the 7,000-plus undergraduate student body took part in the vote.
