Top places for fish and chips across metro Detroit this Lenten season

Bring on fish fry season. Around metro Detroit, there are plenty of places where fish and chips are the best catch.  Ash Wednesday signaled the start of the Lenten season. It s when Christians across metro Detroit and beyond observe a period of reflection, repentance and sacrifice for the six weeks leading up to Easter.  Giving up meat is the most popular observance. And for that reason, Lent is also when area restaurants serving fish and chips reel in (sorry, I couldn t resist) customers, especially on Fridays. This year, with seating-capacity limits still in place because of the coronavirus pandemic, the landscape of favorite places for a fish fry most likely has changed. Many places also have different hours than before.

Black Lake Sturgeon Season very successful

Cheboygan Daily Tribune BLACK LAKE Seven anglers were lucky enough to land a lake sturgeon during the Black Lake Sturgeon Season over the weekend, with the largest fish being a 63 inch, 61 pound female landed by Chris Wilson. The season opened at 8 a.m. and closed at 10:06 a.m., with a total of seven sturgeon harvested, said Brenda Archambo, president of Sturgeon for Tomorrow. All fish looked healthy. This year, there were 596 anglers who had registered to take part in the sturgeon season on Black Lake, which was the most ever for this fishing season. The online only registration appears to have worked well, said Archambo. As part of the registration process, anglers were required to provide a cell phone number.
