Updated: 9:43 PM CDT Jun 15, 2021 WVTM 13 Digital A historic day of celebration in America is becoming more recognizable.June 19, better known as Juneteenth, commemorates Union soldiers arriving in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 to announce the remaining enslaved African-Americans in Texas were free.Many organizations and individuals across the country celebrate Juneteenth in a multitude of ways, ranging from picnics to marches to speaking events. While it is not yet a federal holiday, Juneteenth is observed as a paid holiday by more companies each year. LIST OF EVENTS ON SATURDAYNational Juneteenth Festival and Parade at Kelly Ingram Park9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.The free event will begin at 9 a.m. with a parade. The community celebration begins at 10:30 a.m. and will go through 4:30 p.m. There will be food, music, entertainment and more.
