Vernon Jordan, the former National Urban League president and civil rights leader, has died at 85.
Vickee Jordan Adams, the iconâs daughter, confirmed his death on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. âMy father passed away last night at around 10 p.m. surrounded by loved ones, his wife and daughter, by his side,â Adams noted in a statement. NAACP President Derrick Johnson said the world lost an influential figure in the fight for civil rights and American politics.
âAn icon to the world and a lifelong friend to the NAACP, his contribution to moving our society toward justice is unparalleled,â Johnson declared. âIn 2001, Jordan received the NAACPâs Spingarn Medal for a lifetime of social justice activism.
