Richland County commissioners OK plan to assist at-risk, online students

MANSFIELD Richland County commissioners on Tuesday approved a resolution that will help about 125 local students re-engage in online learning through Youth & Family Council. The students earmarked for the program thus far have been identified by Richland County Juvenile Court, largely for truancy and other behavioral issues through the Mansfield City Schools Tyger Digital Academy, according to YFC Executive Director Teresa Alt. The $196,500 approved by commissioners Tuesday to fund the program comes from the YFC pooled funds money each of the council s contributing agencies allocate to the council each year. The program will create learning pods at different sites within the community, where staff members and/or volunteers will assist small groups of students, largely in grades four through eight, with the academy s online program, according to Alt.
