Victoria Clipper, Black Ball Ferry optimistic on US-Canada border reopening

Victoria Clipper, Black Ball Ferry optimistic on US-Canada border reopening The Victoria Clipper and Black Ball Ferry Line plan to await further guidelines from the Canadian government before resuming operations. Author: Christine Pae (KING 5) Published: 9:46 PM PDT July 16, 2021 Updated: 9:47 PM PDT July 16, 2021 SEATTLE The news from the Canadian government this week that non-essential travel between its border with the U.S. could resume in August for fully vaccinated Americans has some ferry travel businesses feeling cautiously optimistic at best.  We re certainly happy to hear that turn; there s optimism in terms of opening the border, said Clipper CEO David Gudgel. The Clipper is a high-speed ferry service that takes travelers from Seattle to Victoria, British Columbia. In normal times, the service can transport about 260,000 people a year between Victoria and Seattle, according to Gudgel.

Coho ferry readying to resume service once U S -Canada border reopens

“We’ll play it by ear, but I am thinking that we could be operating by the end of August. It depends on how they open the border and the non-vaccinated people hurdle. We still don’t have an idea who is responsible for screening passengers and verifying their proof of vaccination.” The ferry hasn’t been seen in local waters since it made its last voyage at the end of March 2020, when the route between Victoria and Port Angeles was suspended due to the closure of the Canada-U.S. border to non-essential travel. This has been the longest pause of service in the private company’s history.
