Election Commission of India has warned BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari over a speech delivered by him on March 29, for which he had filed a reply on April 9. The Election Commission has advised him to desist from using such statements while making public utterances when Model Code of Conduct is in force. An order from the EC stated, Whereas, the Commission has issued a notice dated April 8 to Suvendu Adhikari, candidate of BJP from 210-Nandigram Assembly Constituency for violation of provisions contained in clause (2) and (3) of Part 1 of General Conduct of Model Code of Conduct for the guidance of political parties and candidates during ongoing General Election to Legislative Assembly of West Bengal.
A day before the end of campaigning for the third phase of assembly polls, the BJP on Saturday took a dig on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi s absence from hectic campaigning and said success doesn t come easily. The saffron party pointed out that on the one hand Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP Chief J.P. Nadda are campaigning hard across the poll bound states, the former Congress president is busy talking to academicians. On Saturday, West Bengal BJP co-incharge Amit Malviya tweeted, At a time when the Prime Minister, National President, Home Minister and other senior leaders of the BJP are campaigning across poll bound states, Rahul Gandhi is busy doing video calls with professors in the US and making puerile statements. After losing, he will crib about lack of democracy and blame the people.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday played the underdog card to woo the voters in the state s Junglemahal, saying that earlier she used to be beaten up by the Communists, but now it is being done by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While addressing a rally in Jhargram s Gopivallavpur area, Banerjee said that the BJP workers had attacked her and injured her leg. I have injury marks all over my body. Earlier, the CPI-M used to attack me and now it s the BJP. I have pain in my leg and I can t walk properly. But I have millions of legs of my mothers and daughters who have showered blessings upon me. They are my strength. I am sure of winning their votes in the upcoming elections too, she said.

Gandhi s attack comes in wake of the government aiming to sell its residual stake in four airports as part of the Rs 2.5 lakh crore asset monetisation pipeline. The sale of Airport Authority of India s remaining stake in the Delhi Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports, as well as identification of 13 more airports for privatisation, has been planned for the next fiscal. The Ministry of Civil Aviation will take approvals for divestment of equity stake of the AAI in the joint ventures running Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports.
