At Major Mahama murder trial: We did not give our statements voluntarily -accused persons claim
April 21, 2021
A mini-trial also known as trial within trial is to be conducted in the case, in which four persons are standing trial for the alleged murder of Major Maxwell Adams Mahama at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region on May 29, 2017.
This is because, counsel of 10 out of the 14 accused charged with murder and abetment of crime had objected to the tendering of caution and charge statements taken from the accused by the prosecution at different times in 2017.
Messrs George Bernard Shaw and Theophilus Donkor yesterday told the Accra High Court presided over by Justice Mariama Owusu, a Supreme Court judge sitting with additional responsibility as a High Court judge that those statements were not given voluntarily by the accused.

Eleven out of the 14 alleged killers of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama have accused the police of coercing them to confess to the murder of the military officer.
Consequently, their lawyers have objected to the tendering of their caution statements, which contain the alleged confessions, as evidence in their trial at the Accra High Court.
This came up yesterday when the case investigator, Chief Inspector Samuel Agyakwa, sought to tender the caution and charge statements of the accused persons into evidence.
The 11 are Bernard Asamoah, alias Daddy; Kofi Nyarko, aka Abortion; Akwasi Baah, Kwame Tuffour, Joseph Appiah Kubi, Michael Anim, Bismark Donkor, John Bosie, Akwasi Baah, Charles Kwaning and Emmanuel Badu.
