The Benefice of West Mersea with East Mersea, Peldon and Great and Little Wigborough is aiming to woo a new priest - with a multipronged marketing campaign designed to "promote our idyllic area".
Bishop of Colchester A GROUP of enthusiastic parishioners has launched its own marketing campaign extolling the virtues of their parish in a bid to recruit a new priest. The parishes which make up the benefice of West Mersea with East Mersea, Peldon and Great and Little Wigborough have been without a rector for three years. Services have carried on but the parishioners really want their own priest. Fed up of waiting, they have now produced a website in a bid to recruit a clerical leader. It comes complete with videos of church wardens promoting the benefits of their island and rural area.

A Texan couple have been announced as the new owners of what is thought to be England s oldest hotel, the Old Bell in Malmesbury. Kim and Whit Hanks have also agreed to buy the neighbouring Abbey House Gardens, once home to the Naked Gardeners and famed for its clothes optional days. The founders of Whim Hospitality, Camp Lucy and Tillie’s Restaurant in Dripping Springs, Texas say they are exceptionally thrilled to take on the sites. They are regular visitors to the town which has been the Hanks family ancestral home since before 1500. Pioneering Malmesbury industrialist, Walter Hanks, operated a mill below The Old Bell Hotel on the River Avon in the late 1100’s.
