May 11, 2021 GLADSTONE, Mich. Susan Joy Solka, age 77, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 9, 20201 at The Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. A full obituary will be forthcoming. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 14, from 3 until 5 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services for Susan will follow at 5 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, www.myotonic.org/donate-towards-myotonic-dystrophy-care-and-cure. May 10, 2021 ESCANABA The Bay College Alumni Association is announce Susan Cobb as the Bay College Distinguished Alumni for 2021. A resident of Bark River, Cobb earned a Certificate in Practical Nursing (2008) and an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing (2009) from Bay College. When notified as the recipient of the 2021 Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award, Cobb stated, “I am so honored. Bay College was life changing for me, and I am so thankful that I was able to enroll in a community college close to home. I still remember many of my instructors, and their guidance and support pushed me to succeed as a student.”

ESCANABA Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Directors of the Gary Abrahamson Jr. Memory Care Center has decided to cancel the 2021 Par-Tee Fundraising Dinner, originally scheduled for April 15, 2021. “While this decision was a difficult one, in light of the continued uncertainty about the future, we decided that it is best to cancel the Par-Tee this year for everyone’s safety,” said Mary Uelmen, who works in the Mission Advancement Office at the Bishop Noa Home and manages the Gary Abrahamson, Jr. Memory Care Center (GAJMCC).

Jan 20, 2021 GLADSTONE On Saturday January 16, 2021, after a wonderful 98 1/2 years our beloved mother, Geraldine Hirn Mitchell Belland, very peacefully passed away with all of her children around her. This is 44 years to the day after her husband, Robert, passed. We think this is a beautiful connection to our father. She was born June 25, 1922 to Dr. Frederick J. and Olive (Arnold) Hirn at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1940. She then attended business college and following her graduation she was employed at the First Wisconsin Bank & Trust Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin for several years. She then returned to Escanaba and was employed by Prudential Insurance Company where she became an office supervisor. She was united in marriage to Robert B. Mitchell Jr. on September 9, 1950. Together they raised five children.
