BIRMINGHAM The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified a man shot and killed by Birmingham Police on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021.
Eusi Malik Kater, Jr., 21, of Birmingham, was shot after police said he took a “tactical position” and fired at officers.
The incident began in the 600 block of Center Place Southwest, in the Titusville area.
In a press conference, police said officers were responding to a call of shots fired near 5th Avenue Southwest, just after 2 p.m. When the officers arrived, they encountered a suspect who then fled on foot, according to police.
Investigators said the suspect shot several shots at officers and continued running until he got to a porch on Center Place Southwest, where police said he “took a tactical position” and continued to fire at officers. Police shot back, striking the suspect.
