Join the Santa Cruz Bee Guild for an hour with guest speaker Tom Seeley. Seeley is a professor of biology at Cornell University, beekeeper and author of "Honey Bee Democracy," "The Lives of Bees" and other books. Seeley will cover how a honey bee swarm chooses its home.

Sign up for basic composting from 2-4 p.m. Saturday held outdoors in the gardens and orchard at the Live Oak Grange, 1900 17th Ave., Santa Cruz. Basic composting will discuss the principles of composting kitchen and yard waste using backyard bins and vermicomposting (worm composting) techniques.
