On High Peaks summits, temperatures are forecast to get down to 30 degrees below zero, with windchills in the 60s below zero. Not a time for summit attempts.
It will remain colder than average through the weekend and into next week. There is no substantial snow in the forecast, but the highest peaks could see a little.

Jan 29, 2021 Cold is the watchword for this weekend. We’re expecting some of the coldest temperatures of the season so far. Wear protective layers, drink plenty of water, and carry extra food. Wind chills on summits on Saturday are expected to be mostly in single digits to teens below zero.
The good news is that we’ve got some good mid-winter ski, skate and snowmobile conditions, with enough snow and ice for the full range of winter adventures.
There is ten to twenty inches of snow across the Adirondack Park, with two to three feet at high elevations. There is about 2.5 feet of snow at the Lake Colden and more on some summits, where drifts will be quite deep. Skis or snowshoes are required in the High Peaks Wilderness and generally needed everywhere.
