France’s policy, from the colonial period until now, partly explains the endemic violence that reigns in the Central African Republic. The Central African Republic (CAR) is a Central African state without access to the sea, with an estimated population of 4,500,000  inhabitants . It is surrounded by Cameroon to the west, Chad to the northwest, Sudan to the northeast, South Sudan to the east, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the southeast and the Republic of the Congo to the south. Agriculture represents 50% of GDP: the CAR also has many natural resources, in particular uranium, gold, diamonds and oil, which are coveted by foreign capital.
