right now, we have seen state by state chip away at access to the bal ballot. voting rights legislation used to pass congress with big bipartisan majorities. now, most republicans oppose federal standards. this bill is yet another attempt at federal takeover state and local elections. this is a power grab. it cynical and wrong. if it wasn t for the federal government, i wouldn t have the right to vote in this country. as a black woman. i wouldn t be serving in the united states congress, and so we absolutely have an obligation on the federal level to step in and make sure that there are standards to our democracy in this country. there s a lot on the president s plate. there s a lot of congress plate. rank voting rights with the other agenda items. voting rights is number one. it impacts every other issue that we can possibly care about

she said, you know, we re asking leader mcconnell to cover what he approved, what he pushed for in terms of legislation with the trump tax cuts. she said that was not paid for. what they did. now we have to pay for it. the tax cut was in 2017. we have raised the debt ceiling several times. if her logic that is accurate, that is ridiculous. we re paying for the situation that we find ourselves in today and which we spent a lot of money in february of this year on covid, a lot of money in december on covid a lot of money in march of last year on covid with huge bipartisan majorities. so where they have a plan to spend more money. the democrats can do this by using reconciliation. it s ridiculous for them to claim that the republicans are responsible for their inability and unwillingness to use a tool that they have available to them to pass the debt ceiling

i am six of playing the game of whack-a-mole with gop members in congress. every time we, you know, address one of their concerns another one pops up. it s playing whack-a-mole at chuck e cheese growing up. there s an urgency to this. so there is an urgency, he says, and i know that you feel that way as well. where do you think democrats go from here? is it the select committee? do they try to go back and modify this more? i know that nancy pelosi worked with senator collins to put republican amendments into this bill, yet it still couldn t get the 60 votes. bipartisan majorities of the house and senate supported the january 6th commission. only about 35 republican senators were able to hold up this bill. this is an assault on democracy, the likes of which i ve never seen. and so we need to get to the bottom of the january 6th
