BRASILIA, Brazil, May 26, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The United States is in line to become the next chair of the Biofuture Platform, a multi-stakeholder initiative facilitated by the International Energy Agency (IEA) created to take action on climate change by promoting international coordination of the sustainable low-carbon bioeconomy. The US will take over from incumbent chair, Brazil, in June 2021.

We are delivering more than originally planned: instead of a physical conference from 30 Nov to 2 Dec 2020, BBEST/BIOFUTURE has expanded to include online webinars and conferences in 2020 and a presential conference, at the same venue, from 24 to 26 May 2021. by Elton Alisson (Agência FAPESP) Biofuels play a fundamental role in decarbonizing the transportation sector. Current policies to grow biofuel production and use on a global scale, however, are not sufficiently ambitious, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
To address this problem, the IEA will assess the effectiveness of the policies implemented by leading producers of low-carbon fuels for transportation such as Brazil in order to help them identify bottlenecks, recommend solutions, and share best practices so as to move the bioenergy agenda forward.
The initiative was presented by IEA representatives during the Fourth Brazilian Bioenergy Science and Technology Conference (BBEST), held online between November 30 and December 2.
