Federal officials seize more than $1 million in dietary supplements from manufacturer | Business Observer

U.S. Marshals, on behalf of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, seized more than $1.47 million in supplements and ingredients last month made by Premier Manufacturing Products, a Cape Coral company that produces and sells dietary supplements.  The seizure, according to a letter sent by Premier officials to the state of Florida, left the company unable to “continue to manufacture and distribute with our current business model.” In three letters dated May 19 announcing 30 layoffs, the first of four phases of job cuts, Premier states that “the legal challenge is estimated to take well over a year if we were to succeed.”

FDA seizes kratom supplements FDA s announcement that U.S. Marshals seized dietary supplements containing kratom ignited a war of words on Twitter between former high-ranking government officials. Federal authorities recently seized dietary supplements and bulk dietary ingredients containing kratom over continuing concerns that the products pose risks to public health. The seized products are worth roughly $1.3 million and the subject of a lawsuit filed in Florida by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), according to an FDA news release. U.S. marshals at FDA s request seized more than 207,000 units of dietary supplements and bulk dietary ingredients that are or contain kratom, including more than 34,000 kilograms of bulk kratom, FDA announced.

Manufactured by Fort Myers, FL-based Atofil, LLC, a subsidiary of Premier Manufacturing Products, the seized products are marketed under the brand names Boosted Kratom, The Devil s Kratom, Terra Kratom, Sembuh, Bio Botanical, and El Diablo. There is substantial concern regarding the safety of kratom, the risk it may pose to public health and its potential for abuse, ​ said Judy McMeekin, Pharm.D., the FDA s Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs.
