MALASIQUI, Pangasinan - The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has recorded nine cases of leptospirosis from January 1 to July 18 this year, 31 percent lower than the 13 cases in the same period last year. Based on data obtained by the Philippine News Agency on Wednesday, there were no casualties from the total cases during the period. Most of the patients are between 35 to 39 years old male. Under PHO's monitoring for leptospirosis are Binalonan, Sta. Maria, Bolinao, Binmaley, Mangaldan, Mabini towns, and San Carlos City. The PHO urged residents to remain vigilant with the onset of the rainy season that might bring flooding. PHO chief Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, in a recent interview, advised the public to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to prevent diseases, such as dengue and leptospirosis.
