India is constructing a new 179-km road from Jalpaiguri to Doklam along the India-China border, which will reduce travel time to Sikkim and Doklam and allow better logistical movement for defence vehicles. The road starts from Khunia More in Jalpaiguri and passes through various locations before reaching Doklam.

The sculpture, commissioned by Sangita Jindal, chairperson, JSW Foundation, is an artwork by Siddharth Somaiya in dedication to the Koli community.
