The trial of former Darfur janjaweed leader, Ali Muhammad Ali Abdelrahman (known as ‘Ali Kushayb’), who has been accused of 31 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity between 2003 and at least 2004, is scheduled to resume today International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, the Netherlands.
Six Chadian soldiers have reportedly been killed by armed men, believed to be Sudanese, in area of Roto in west Jokouma in Bindisi on the border between Central Darfur and Chad. Sources from the area told Radio Dabanga that the Chadian army has asked its Sudanese counterparts to hand over the perpetrators.
The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan arrived in the South Darfur capital of Nyala yesterday, where he held talks with officials in Kalma camp for the displaced, in relation to the ICC trial of former janjaweed leader ‘Ali Kushayb’ on counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Heavy rains and floods continued in Sudan. An estimated 136.000 people have been affected so far. In Darfur, many farms were destroyed and camps for the displaced were affected. In Eastern Sudan’s Kassala and El Gezira, at least 3000 homes (partially collapsed) and at least 15 people died as rivers flooded.
