They loved the beach, which is within walking distance. They were drawn to the Daytona Beach area because, well, it s Daytona, a tourism mecca, a fun place to be. And as they aged, the relative quiet of the city to the north, Ormond Beach, was appealing.
But practically from the start, George and Billy Manning, a gay couple in the colorful 1954 split-level they bought in 2017, and Kenneth Doss owner of a 1953 bungalow he purchased in 2019 have planted their flags, establishing their vastly different political identities just in time for a divisive 2020 election whose echoes still are being felt.
