HBO announced that a special episode of “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” will premiere on June 21 at 10 p.m. and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
Based on the book of the same name that debuted in June 2020, the story explores writer Michelle McNamara’s investigation into the dark world of the violent predator she dubbed “The Golden State Killer.” McNamara worked diligently to keep the Golden State Killer case in the public eye for many years before passing away in 2016. The HBO special highlights McNamara’s investigative work on cold cases and unsolved murders. Her lifelong fascination for this type of work sparked after authorities failed to solve the 1984 case of Kathy Lombardo, who was raped and murdered in McNamara’s hometown of Oak Park, Illinois.
