BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, April 9, 2020 – Bill O’Keefe, executive vice president for Mission, Mobilization and Advocacy at Catholic Relief Services (CRS), issued the following statement in response to the administration’s FY22 budget request.
“The administration’s proposal to increase poverty-focused international assistance in its FY22 budget request demonstrates a steadfast commitment to American leadership abroad. The proposed funding will be vital to tackle the long-term implications of poverty and vulnerability and the compounding challenges that have emerged due to COVID-19. It will also help the United States better prepare for future pandemics, fight climate change, and deal with the complex challenges plaguing Central America. What’s more, it will go toward programs that save millions of lives through childhood vaccinations, clean water access, and skilled response to disasters.
