Gombe State Government on Friday imposed 24 hours curfew, due to the continued blockade of Yola/Gombe highway which has stalled movement in Billiri Local Government Area of the state, over the paramount ruler stool, Mai Tangale.
Women in their hundreds had mounted checks at various points due to what they considered deliberate delay tactics of the Inuwa Yahaya-led administration to announce his preferred choice to the Mai Tangale stool, different from the candidate with the highest vote.
Confirming the decision of the government to enforce curfew in a press briefing, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, said the curfew is the government’s last resort to finding peace in the area.

Gombe state government has imposed a 24-hour curfew with immediate effect on Billiri Local Government Area of the state following the eruption of violence in the area.
Prof.Abubakar Njodi, Secretary to the State Government, who made the declaration during a Press conference in Gombe on Friday evening said imposing the curfew became necessary in order to contain the violence which erupted in the area as this could threaten lives and property of the citizenry.
According to him, “ What we want to establish is peace so that we can reach out to the people and conclude issues with regard to the appointment of the new Mai Tangle.”.

Gombe State Government has imposed a 24-hour indefinite curfew within Billiri Local Government Area with immediate effect from Friday, 19th February 2021.
The development is following the current eruption of violence in Billiri Town, which has degenerated into a security threat to both lives and property.
According to a press statement signed by the Secretary to Gombe State Government (SSG), Prof Ibrahim Njodi Abubakar, The government affirmed the need for peaceful co-existence among the citizenry and commitment to the protection of lives and properties. Consequently, the government has suspended all forms of gatherings in Billiri Local Government Area.
The statement directed all security agencies to ensure strict compliance with the curfew directive while all citizens are expected to comply with the directive except personnel providing essential services.
