none of that $50 billion is coming out of inefficiencies that exist within medicare, fraud which exists in medicare. this is real. i heard a case of a group of people in florida billing medicare to the tune of about $80 million over a period of several years on behalf of several doctors who haven t been living for ten years. so this is the type of fraud that s going on. it s real. so some of that will help it. but obviously there s a concern that some people s benefits also go away with medicare. john brought up an interesting point earlier the whole idea the way the physicians are reimbursed since the balanced budget amendment in 1997, there was an idea that medicare is going to grow in terms of the costs, keep up with inflation. for health care providers salaries, they wanted to tie that more to the economy. so there s this complicated formula called the sgr. things were fine when the economy was doing fine. when the economy started to take a downturn, there was a concern that the
