still enact the ban because of what one state lawmaker did back on april 3rd. trisha clockm, who ran and won as a pro-choice democrat, switched parties giving the republicans a veto-proof supermajority. she voted for the 12-week ban despite co-sponsoring a bill to codify abortion protections into state law earlier this same year. and joining me now is north carolina governor roy cooper. governor cooper, thank you for being here. i watched your press conference or your event over the weekend at which you were cheered by doctors standing with you and women for vetoing this legislation. you have called out three names, state representative john bradford who said he would not seek additional restrictions, i believe he s a republican, state representative ted davis who did not vote on the bill last week and said last year the law should stay at 20 week weeks and the state representative cotham, who on may 3rd, 2022, she said
together in order to do that for the president. there is a pressure for them to try to fund the government, far into the future as well as to raise the debt ceiling. but republicans are salivating. they realize their on the cusp of power in the house that they haven t had for quite sometime and they could use some of the levers of power, including things like the debt ceiling and funding government to try to pressure joe biden. and so biden hasn t laid out what he wants to get done during the lame duck, but i would not be surprised if he tried to put some pressure on his fellow democrats to try to lend him a hand ahead of next year which is going to be full of oversight and investigations and all kinds of political brinksmanship as well. there are some not insignificant pieces of legislation on the docket for the lame-duck session, including a bill to codify same-sex marriage and some have some bipartisan support to reform the
petition to move the bill to codify title 42 and insure it be enforced. where was our leadership team move it? that s why we have questions about what we need to use to use the power of the purse and our tools in washington to demand this administration due their duty to secure the border of the united states and need to shove it down their throats. i want to get you in on this house minority leader kevin mccarthy won the nomination for speaker but could face a tough road to be elected in january. three house reps have said they will not support him. mccarthy says he is confident former house speaker newt gingrich said this. january 3rd what republican will vote for chaos, people have to face reality. it is perfectly reasonable for them to try to get as many concessions as they can. it is perfectly reasonable for them inside the conference to offer an alternative.
