Letters: Slow down the march to industrialize western St Joseph County

I was dismayed to read that Commissioner Andy Kostielney and county economic development’s Bill Schalliol’s march to industrialize western St. Joseph County rolls merrily along. We the people out this way have been waiting for our opportunity to present to our county officials alternative views of what the future that we would like to be working toward could look like. It appears we could be waiting awhile. During his campaign for his current position, Commissioner Derek Dieter spoke of understanding how poorly the Indiana Enterprise Center affair has been run thus far — and promised he would go to work to clear the air. Perhaps he could convince Kostielney to speak with our town officials whom he has effectively silenced thus far?

New Carlisle Property Prepping for Development

Officials believe industrial land near New Carlisle will soon be generating jobs, investment

SOUTH BEND — After a few years of planning, it appears that some long-awaited development could be headed to the Indiana Enterprise Center just east of New Carlisle. St. Joseph County Council voted unanimously to approve a zone change for two privately owned parcels of property — totaling 114 acres — from agricultural to industrial use. The land is located on the southwest corner of Larrison Drive and Edison Road, just south of the sprawling I/N Tek complex. Attorney Pete Agostino, who is representing one of the property owners, said a business, which could bring about 450 jobs to the area, is deciding whether to locate on the two parcels. With the zone change, the site is now ready for development as it has needed utilities nearby.

Granger subdivision breaks new ground as largest single-housing project in decades

Work already has begun at a new development called The Hills at St. Joe Farm in Granger. The project is the largest residential development in the area in more than 10 years and is a first for Granger in that it includes water and sewer service. Tribune Photo/MICHAEL CATERINA
