welcome to early start. i am christine romans. i think john brennan got on twitter for the second time because of this. 4:00 a.m. in the east. the government is running for another month. the senate approving a stop-gap bill last night to keep agencies open through january 19th. the house approved the measure early in the day pushing the measure through means lawmakers, yes, they can get away from the holidays. the president is also getting away for the holidays, heading to mar-a-lago after signing the tax bill, but many issues remain unresolved. bill mattingly sorts through it for us on capitol hill. in the end, the poll or the scent of jet fumes overwhelmed the idea of having a fight when
will pay for itself. just listen to the treasury secretary. he talked about the president s tax plan. not only will this tax plan pay for itself but it will pay down debt. so pay for itself and then extra money to pay down the trillions of dollars in debt. so it is shocking when it comes out that it s going to cost a trillion dollars never mind one of those things. so what is the secretary talking about? it s hard to say. the new york times is reporting that his own treasury office of tax policy does not have a report to back the bosses claims up. which is pretty amazing. we re hours before the senate could vote on legislation that will impact every single taxpayer in america and lawmakers do not have the report from treasury that backs up the most fundamental claim. dianne feinstein tweeting, we may vote on the republican tax bill tonight. we don t have a final bill or a treasury department analysis. this is outrageous. bill mattingly is out front from capitol hill. phil, obviou
blown into the open over the course of the last couple weeks. reps quietly voice a lot of the concerns you heard from senator corker and flake and mccain, but they also recognize in controlling the house, in controlling the senate and in controlling the white house from from a policy perspective they are in a place they haven t been in a long time, certainly turnover course of the last eight years. so when you see senate majority leader or speaker paul ryan talk about these are distractions, that they need to look past the fact that these are historic moments that are institution rattling, it s because they recognize as it currently stands they have a conservative agenda they ve been trying to put into law nowhere years and that opportunity still exists so long as it still exists, don t expect others, at least at least the majority to follow suit. bill mattingly, thanks very much. back with the panel. scott was talking about the republican agenda. what does it mean for the presiden
than it s on graham cassidy side. cassidy keeps saying jimmy skimle doesn t know what he s talking about. he s done his homework. no, don. let s talk about the fact checks. well, no. what does he have wrong? first of all, he s entirely wrong, 100% wrong, couldn t be more wrong. it s not 100% wrong. it is. show me the fact check. did you see bill mattingly s report? i did. pre-existing conditions, you can t discriminate against pre-existing conditions. that s not true. it does not provide hold on, hold on, hold on, matt. matt, if you say something i got to fact check you. because the president said that a pre-existing condition, is it true, no, it does not provide the same sweeping protections of those with pre-existing condition ks as obamacare. here s why. prior to obamacare many people with pre-existing conditions found themselves branded uninsurable for life on the
going to pass, because it s the only way to fulfill a campaign promise and at least move the needle forward to but should that be the goal, to fulfill a campaign promise? come o tara. no the goal should be for better health care and better access to health care for the american people, which i think that this bill has some of that i ve gotta tell you this is not the same scenario. with the fact check that i ve done, and maybe everything jimmy kimmel said is not 100%, but the fact checks are on his side more than it s on graham kas /cassid side. cassidy keeps saying jimmy kimmel doesn t know what he s talking about. he s done his homework. no, don. let s talk about the fact checks. well, no. what does he have wrong? first of all, he s entirely wrong, 100% wrong, couldn t be more wrong. it s not 100% wrong. it is. show me the fact check. did you see bill mattingly s report? i did.
