Army’s small helicopter of the future may have flown in Alabama today
Updated Apr 15, 2021;
The sleek, twin-rotor helicopter hovering at steep angles and zooming at 200 mph over the Redstone Army Airfield in Alabama today could be one of the military’s helicopters of the future. If it is, that will be in large part because a team at Redstone wanted it that way.
After long, grueling wars in the Mideast that pushed its current helicopters to the max and beyond, the Army is on a mission to upgrade to new helicopters with the latest innovations in technology and electronics. It’s the Army’s third-highest priority for the future, and Redstone is the headquarters of the U.S. Army’s Future Vertical Lift Cross Functional Team. They’re the ones assigned to make it happen.

Lockheed Martin said that the S-97 Raider flew two demonstrations before Army officials and Soldiers at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama this week.
The events offered a glimpse at Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company s bid for the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) program, part of the U.S. Army s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) effort.
On April 13 and 15 at Redstone, Sikorsky s Christiaan Corry and Bill Fell piloted the S-97 RAIDER flight routines that highlighted both low-level helicopter maneuverability and the high-speed capability that only Sikorsky s X2 Technology family of helicopters offers. Corry previously flew with the first Army experimental test pilot in S-97 RAIDER, with additional events to come.

BURLINGTON â Thousands of health care consumers are losing an independent pharmacy that has worked since the 1980s to offer a locally-owned alternative to rising prescription costs.
The Pharmacy Station, which has outlets in Burlington, Waterford and Elkhorn, has sold its prescription business to Walgreens, turning over customer accounts to the drugstore giant, which has more than 9,000 locations.
Pharmacy Station customers are saddened and disappointed to see the downfall of a hometown business where they found a familiar face and a helping hand in the often-chaotic world of health care.
âItâs just a shame,â Burlington customer Geri Brady said. âItâs going to be missed greatly.â
