Editor, Townsman:
On the firing of Bill Fahey from the position of director of youth services: As a former Andover Youth Services kid turned AYS colleague turned AYS advocate, I am shocked and disgusted by the move of the town to remove one of our most valuable community pillars, especially in the wake of a pandemic where our kids need stability and togetherness more than ever.
Fahey has skillfully guided his staff for two decades to help support and mentor thousands of grateful children, and he has the backing of hundreds of families who have benefitted from his work.

ANDOVER, MA The Andover Select Board faced two hours of questions and criticisms Monday night regarding the firing of Youth Services Director Bill Fahey.
Fahey was fired May 10. The basis for my decision relating to Mr. Fahey s employment was the findings by an independent investigator of conduct that could compromise the best interests of some program participants, Town Manager Andrew Flanagan said in a statement. As Town Manager, I have no greater responsibility than protecting kids and residents.

ALPENA The Michigan Supreme Court on Tuesday denied Alpena Township’s appeal in the ongoing water and sewer litigation with Alpena.
The township filed the request in August, after the state’s Court of Appeals sent the case back to the local court.
The news sets the stage for a new trial with a new judge in Alpena’s 26th Circuit Court if a compromise isn’t reached beforehand.
Township attorney Bill Fahey, of the firm Fahey Schultz Burzych Rhodes in Okemos, said he wasn’t surprised by the verdict and suspects the local court will schedule a status conference in the coming weeks to bring both parties together to discuss the path forward.
