UK Libraries Recognizes 2 Undergrads for Gen Z Activism, COVID Mental Health Scholarship

(June 9, 2021) University of Kentucky Libraries is proud to recognize Lewis Honors College freshman Isha Chauhan and dance freshman Haley Shaver with the 2021 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Scholarship. This award recognizes exceptional, original scholarship and excellent research conducted by UK undergraduates making substantive use of UK Libraries’ collections, services and resources. Isha Chauhan, of LaGrange, Kentucky, is recognized for her research in response to poet William Everson’s 1959 article, “Dionysus and the Beat Generation: The Reemergence of the Dionysian Spirit in Contemporary Life.” In constructing her paper, “Naked Dinner: A Comparison of Dionysian and Apollonian Values Between the Beat Generation and Generation Z,” she used interlibrary loan, citation guides, librarian recommendations, archival materials, academic search engines and databases.

Traders ask govt to withdraw directives on market closure Peshawar April 18, 2021 PESHAWAR: The traders here on Saturday asked the government to withdraw its directives regarding the closure of the markets at 6pm. Speaking at a meeting, Ghulam Bilal Javed, President Traders Alliance and Provincial Chairman National Peace Council, said the traders could no longer afford to comply with the directives of the government. The meeting unanimously passed a resolution calling upon the government to allow businesses to remain open from 10 am to 12pm for seven days a week in Ramadan. He said closing businesses at 6pm and keeping the markets closed two days a week would cause immense loss to the business community.

Cop arrested over detonator explosion in old city area Karachi December 22, 2020 An official serving in the Special Protection Unit of the Sindh police has been arrested in connection with Saturday’s explosion in the old city area that had left two people injured. Police on Monday said they had arrested Bilal Javed because he had brought a detonator to his friends, adding that the device had exploded when his friend Babar Shahid took it from him and accidentally removed its pin. Two men had been injured in the explosion in the wee hours of Saturday. Following the incident, ambulances from welfare organisations transported the casualties to the Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where the injured were identified as Daniyal and Babar.
