Karimganj: A Magisterial probe has been ordered on Saturday (April 3) to determine why a polling team in Assam carried an EVM in a vehicle owned by the wife of a BJP candidate.
Karimganj District Deputy Superintendent Anbamuthan MP issued an order on Friday night to probe the incident, which has snowballed into a huge controversy amid the ongoing Assam assembly elections, the last phase of which is slated for Tuesday.

GUWAHATI: Following a controversy over a polling team in Assam carrying an EVM in the vehicle belonging to the wife of a BJP candidate, the Congress on Saturday held a protest against the incident and alleged that the ruling party in the state is indulging in electoral manipulation.
Amid slogan-shouting by the party workers, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora urged the Election Commission to take strict action against the BJP leaders who carry out illegal activities that hamper the polling process.

SILCHAR: The five Assembly seats of Karimganj district – Ratabari, Patharkandi, Badarpur, Kaimganj (North) and Karimganj (South) – are set to witness tough and straight fight between the BJP-led alliance and the Congress-AIUDF combine.
Other parties like the CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML), the SUCI and independents are almost inconsequential. The focus of interest is Karimganj (North), considered prestigious for the BJP-led brigade and the Congress-led alliance as well. This is mainly an urban population-based constituency where the voters have shown their preference for the Left, AGP and the Congress till the entry of the BJP and the AIUDF in the scene.

Ahead of Assam assembly elections due next year, the Bharatiya Janata Party heavyweights are in the middle of a two-day executive meeting in Karimganj. Chief Minister Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, state BJP president Ranjit Dass, and state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend the meet, reported the Sentinel.
The two-day meeting is expected to be high volt as all office bearers and senior functionaries of the party, including Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and MP Rameshwar Teli, MP Rajdeep Roy, BJP MLAs and others are all expected to attend the meeting. Karimganj: The two-day executive meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun on Wednesday (December 23) in Karimganj district of Assam at the government school playground of Karimganj.
The high voltage meeting of the ruling party of the state was started with flag hoisting. State BJP president Ranjit Dass and Karimganj district BJP president Subrata Bhattacharjee hosted the party flag. And Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda .Sonowal inaugurated the two-day programme by lighting the lamp.
