Graduation ceremonies and May excitement return to Burlington schools

The Hawk Eye A year after COVID-19 forced high schools and colleges to delay or alter their graduation ceremonies, the rites of passage are returning to a more traditional look this spring. Over the next several weeks, friends and families of this year s graduating seniors will gather at various venues to watch as their loved ones receive their diplomas.  Some ceremonies will look much like they did in years past. Others will be similar to the graduations of 2020, when many were moved outside, delayed by months and seating was limited to allow for social distancing. For example, Burlington Notre Dame Catholic High School pushed back its graduation ceremony to mid-July and moved it from its usual location in the gymnasium to the football field. Attendance was limited to parents and grandparents. 

Biggsville man injured in single vehicle crash

May 3, 2021 Biggsville, Ill-  A Biggsville Il. man was injured after a single-vehicle crash in Henderson County. According to the Illinois State Police, a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Tyler Scott of Biggsville was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 94, just north of Illinois Route 116. Scott’s vehicle left the roadway on the right shoulder, entered the east ditch, then became airborne. The vehicle struck the north side of a creek embankment and overturned onto the roof.  Scott was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No further information was released.

Carringer died 20 August 1926 in Urbana, Champiagn County, Illinois.  The Monday obituary says Friday (meaning 24 August), but the Find A Grave memorial says 20 August.  The obituary lists his birth date and place (although there is a Biggsville, Illinois, but not Ohio), his wife s maiden name and their marriage date and place, plus the names of his four living brothers.  There is no indication of occupations, associations or interests.  Pesotum is about 8 miles south of Champaign, Illinois.  William Effinger Carringer (1860-1926) was born 4 July 1860 in Biggsville, Henderson County, Illinois, the son of Anthony S. and Maria (Moyer) Carringer  He married Huldah Jane Crawford on 30 December 1884 in Urbana, Champaign county, Illinois.  They had no children, except for the infant son who died, whos
