it s been since the 70s. san francisco, they did get snow but it s not like they needed mr. plow. it was a little touch. but still, snow is snow and they certainly had it. away from san francisco, farther down the coastline and in higher elevationses, sierra nevada, more than flurries. some places we could see several feet of snow, not only the sierra nevada mountains, wasatch range. central rockies one to two feet. it s going to be a weekend event. it s going to be today and tomorrow. fizzling out as we get into monday. but the big weathermaker, the thing that s making all that happen is the cold air obviously coming in from the north but also this area of low pressure that frontal boundary one of the major cal lifts giving us that possibility of heavy snowfall. for parts of the great lakes, this area of low pressure will enhance that west to east flow of wind across parts of lake michigan. you could see an inch of snow. nothing too heavy there.
work. it was pretty crazy out there last night. new york is not the only state that was impacted by wildfires due to the winds and also reports of wildfires and winds in new jersey and parts of pennsylvania and maryland and even in virginia. luckily those winds have died down and now we have deal with our next big weathermaker. you can see the moisture spreading in parts of western pennsylvania with snow west of pittsburgh, also snow in northeastern ohio and spreading through parts of michigan, wisconsin as far west as south dakota. we are also expecting blizzard conditions in parts of minnesota and south dakota where winds in excess of 30 miles an hour. but we have a second batch of moisture across parts of state of arizona, rain as you get into lower elevations and higher elevations, snow. and this will be meeting up with this storm and enhancing additional precipitation. you have one batch of moisture
6 degrees in minneapolis. extreme cold here has settled across the eastern part of the country and going stay with us for awhile. minus 20 in soo falls, south dakota, and quite a bit of snow across the area. omaha, over 8 inches of snow. that is this storm right here. doesn t look all that significant. bringing snow around st. louis. towards paducah. rain across area of arkansas, cold rain that is. this storm is going to develop a little more strongly tomorrow as it starts to tap into moisture that will be coming in from the gulf. as you look at the futurecast here it doesn t look like anything that significant until tomorrow afternoon. the moisture being pulled up. this becomes potentially a big weathermaker for us on wednesday as a nor easter if it takes a bit of a more westerly track. could be a mixing of rain and snow across coastal areas with more snow inland or all snow and some very significant snow. we have some time to watch this and we will do that to get a
abrams joins us live. stephanie, where are you keeping your eye and what are you tracking? right through the center of the country and through the midwest. here is our big weathermaker. it s bringing rain to places like memphis and nashville, still recovering in nashville. a lot of people seeing rain. this is not a repeat of what we recently saw. there is rain in memphis, stronger storms this morning. north of kansas city in between kc and omaha, everything moving east. tamron, this is where we re expecting biggest threat for tornadoes, northeastern portions of oklahoma on into portions of southern kansas. long lasting tornadoes, big tornadoes. if you don t see that, can you see hail and damaging winds. right now there s nothing going on. but with someday time heating and upper-level forcing, it should explode this afternoon. we could see a tornado outbreak. look at these states included in our severe weather threat area. then that threat extends eastbound as we head into the
