that s one of the reasons why it s going on the way it was. julie: i want your take on the president siding with kim jong un on something not as predictable but he took a jab at the former vice president joe biden agreeing with kim who said he has a low iq. i want your reaction after we play the tape, here s the the president and japan. kim jong un made a statement that joe biden is a low iq individual, he probably is based on his record. i think i agree with him on that. joe biden was a disaster, his administration with president obama basically a disaster when it came to so many things weather was economy, whether was military defense, no matter what it was, they had a lot of problems. julie: what you think the president s intentions there were? s interest right now i m feeling a possible deal, was as more of his dealmaking with the north? obviously, if he complements the leader that way, then
weapons. at a time when they re thought to be boosting their nuclear arsenal, the president is saying we are not looking for regime change. it is not intended to pacify their? i am happy to hear that because that s the best course of action for the united states, pursuing regime change by any means is going to end up was disastrous for us and for the region but there is also a deal to be made here and is not like the iranians are just pursuing nuclear weapons. if they are actually throwing these things out here, these claims of they re going to start reprocessing in 60 days because they want to go to the constraints put on. there is a deal to be had there and if we talk to them, they are willing to make a deal as long as it s not asking them to completely disarm. they want to have peace and they want to develop so i really hope he continues to go down that path and that s going to be a loser for everybody.
president in for the evening as he gets ready for another very busy day. but that is a threat from north korea and that could potentially change the talks with the prime minister on monday, alex. can i ask if any diplomacy talks took place today, kristen? reporter: what an important question. look, this was about reaffirming the relationship, that very strong personal bond, that trump has with prime minister abe. this is his second visit to japan, afr ater all, and chk to the prime minister has visited the white house as well. what sort of progress was made on the policy front? not a lot so far, and they ve been downplaying expectations from the start. look, they are going to have a bilateral meeting tomorrow, alex. they re going to hold a joint press conference at the end of that meeting. what the president and prime minister want is a big trade deal. it doesn t look like they ll get it right now because there are parliamentary elections coming
the pomp and circumstances that we ve seen so far? reporter: well, kendis, white house officials would argue that there is a purpose to all of that pomp and circumstance. they feel as though it s reaffirming that personal relationship between president trump, between the prime minister, but is there going to be a deliverable? there s not going to a trade deal. however, however, they could start to sort of set the terms of where they re going to strike a will compromise. will they reach a deal? that remains to be seen. look at the trade war right now between the u.s. and china. that s really disconcerting to japan s prime minister. so a lot of question marks about whether they re ever going to get to a trade deal. certainly the two leaders want to and feel this trip, this visit, is going to be a part of the puzzle to getting kendis. kristen kendis. kristen welker in tokyo on day two of the president s state visit to japan. our thanks to you. let s bring in katie williams, a seni
