vance brings up the raise act. i hadn t heard him mention that before. his three part plan for the border. he has been talking about since january. so it was interesting to hear that come back up. it was interesting to hear tim ryan talk about issue 1 that has to do with whether or not judges have to consider the amount of cash when they set bail. they can already think about public safety when they set terms. but they don t get to use public safety to determine the cash amount. so, that was interesting to hear him go with the opposite of what the democratic party in the state is backing. martha: a few times. thank you very much, you guys. bret: thank you. martha: good to have you with us. that concludes our special ohio town hall tonight. we want to thank our sponsor this hour tunnel 2 towers donate $11 a month to tunnel 2 towers at t2t.org.
bret: i assume you have heard congressman ryan before and he had a lot to say about violence and about january 6th. sure. bret: about paul pelosi and about other things. not getting specific here but do you want to reply to any of those things that he brought up? j.d. vance: first of all. tim should hire better researchers here. [laughter] j.d. vance: what happens, look, what happened to paul pelosi was disgusting. and i think everybody, whether you are democrats or republicans or somewhere in the middle are very glad that it looks like he is about to make a full recovery. hopefully he is doing well. certainly our thoughts and prayers are with paul pelosi but i have condemned the violence against paul pelosi from the very beginning. i think it s preposterous and disgusting and something all of us should condemn. what i have also said is that i think the effort to turn this into a political issue actually is a real problem here. because paul pelosi was attacked, look, paul pel
profits. tim ryan: i haven t looked at exactly what he wants to do. oil companies are making huge profits and having stock buy backs right now while average person here is paying nearly $4 a gallon. i think that s wrong. i think we need to crack down. we need to crack down on that. [applause] bret: we re going to move on. but, obviously, critics say have you ever seen something that you taxed that you get more of it? tim ryan: no. probably not. bret: let s go to johnny from sunbury. are you here? congressman ryan, thank you so much for being here tonight. i m a senior at cedarville politics. rising crime. all of the country seeing judges let criminals, not in the people, criminals out on bail with little or, you know, little or no bail. and community safety is being put at risk. constitutional amendment on the ballot in ohio this year about a case that happened in ohio. so if you are elected it the senate what exactly will you do to address this issue and prevent criminals
incentive to, you know, prevent them from committing another crime or return to court? tim ryan: that s a great question. thank you. takes a lot of gut to stand up here so i appreciate you doing that. i support making sure that judges have the right in the constitutional amendment, i m voting yes on that, to be able for the judges to be able to balance their decision with regard to public safety. and crime is an issue. i don t care what anybody sells about that. sells says about that. we need more cops, we need better paid cops and we need to make sure that we invest into police training. and that s why we put hundreds of millions billions of dollars into the rescue package for state and local government so that we can fund the police over the course of my career, i have brought back $500 million to the state of ohio for police, for staffing, for technology and we also have to figure out how in the hell are all these criminals getting their hands on all these guns?
