New York Yankees general manger Brian Cashman wants to re-sign free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu. But he may have missed his best chance to do that, based on what ESPN’s Jeff Passan is reporting.
The Blue Jays, sources said, have emerged as significant players in the LeMahieu sweepstakes perhaps the biggest threat to him re-signing with the
, with whom a significant gap remains. The Mets also have expressed interest in LeMahieu.
That the Mets are in the mix is no surprise, given new owner Steve Cohen’s desire to make a splash. And the Blue Jays appear to be making a full-court press to sign LeMahieu. Last week, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reported “the Blue Jays have been engaged with all the top free agents on the market, including LeMahieu, George Springer, J.T. Realmuto and Trevor Bauer.”
