After a year of enforced closure, The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington plans to reopen with a bang this summer and one that will reverberate across 15 open-air theatre venues as the Torrington based arts charity kicks off what must be the largest Open-Air Theatre Festival in the country.
With 54 outdoor theatre performances taking place from June 11 to September 4 across North Devon (plus one in North Somerset that crept into the mix!) there are endless reasons for lovers of theatre and open spaces to be tempted into the great outdoors this summer.

Frank Turner hasn’t put out music in almost two years, but now he’s breaking that silence with a vengeance. Not only did he just release a brand new track, “The Gathering,” which features both Grammy-winning alt-country star Jason Isbell and Dominic Howard (the drummer of a little band called Muse), but the English folk-punk standout also launched both a limited edition beer and UK tour to go with it.
Of course, after spending most of the last year streaming live shows from his living room, the singer-songwriter wasn’t looking to be like everyone else and write a song about life in quarantine.
Visitors have been enjoying the return to Crealy Adventure Park.

Following the Government’s ‘roadmap’ further lifting COVID-19 restrictions on April 12, two thirds of Devon’s top attractions have now re-opened their doors and are welcoming many visitors back to enjoy their outdoor facilities. Although they are only partially open, with restrictions and limited capacity still in place, all have reported a positive start in the first week of the season.
Canonteign Falls has now re-opened its trails to everyone.

A Devon charity is hosting a free online event this week to support those in the county’s hospitality and tourism sector through Covid-19 and recovery.
Devon Communities Together has organised the “Surviving and Thriving in Devon’s Tourism and Hospitality Sector” event on Friday, March 19, as part of its Listening Ear service, which it launched earlier this year in partnership with Devon County Council.
The webinar, from 11:30am-1pm, is specifically designed for those in the sector but those in the supply chain, aligned with the industry, or considering diversification, are very welcome to attend.
