cnn starts now. america holds up a mirror to itself and what we see is ugly. that s tonight. this week the united states gave itself a physical of sorts and found that extremism runs deep in its blood stream. it runs across both parties and it courses through our most esteamed institutions. the example that sparked the most headlines interesting most discussion and the most fear of a constitutional crisis was delivered by the former president. under no circumstances, you are promising america tonight, you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody. except for day one. except for except for day one. by now, this kind of rhetoric from trump isn t really surprising and neither are the mental gymnastics from republicans determined to dismiss it. are you okay with that kind of rhetoric? i mean, it s entertainment. we ve been around him long enough. it s entertaining. i think he is an executive that does make decisions and gets things done. now, all
evidence that could have lead to joe biden himself. congressman, mr. chairman, thanks for joining us. hournt biden is hunter biden is facing nine additional charges, which he could be sentenced to a maximum of 17 years in prison. your reaction. well, i m not surprised. we ve been talking about lots of different crimes that we found in our investigation of the biden family and the house oversight committee, this is one of many crimes. tax evasion, this particular tax evasion pertains to unpaid income while he was working, and i would argue there s other things received money from that he s evaded taxes. and we believe they clearly violated the registration act, we believe they committed money laundering crimes. we believe there s many more. when the special council, mr. weisse was named, there was a lot of speculation, he s not going to be fair. not aggressive, the fix was in. looks like all the skeptics were wrong. i don t agree with that. this is one of many crimes,
he made kemp one of his prime targets for the midterms. joining us now, patricia murphy. this news broke just this morning. what do you make of it? yeah, this is huge news. we have known for a long time that republicans would start to line up behind brian kemp as he heads toward his primary on may 24th. we did not expect for mike pence to be coming in and putting in such a big public show of support for brian kemp. we got the news today and broke the news today that pence will be coming in the day before the primary, he ll do get out the vote valley for brian kemp and that will be in his challenge from against rather daperdue. pence is coming down on the side of brian kemp. to remind people why donald trump is going after brian kemp. brian kemp, the republican governor of georgia, refused to
independent investigation. bill: of what? i was heartened by the hearing he and adam schiff held a week ago that seems like decades ago now but the problem is the republicans have asked for the question of how people are unmasked in intelligence reports and how things are leaked to be part of the russian investigation so it s one big investigation now and instead of sharing information he learned with his fellow committee members information he got from the white house he made a big public show the next day of going back to the white house. bill: he s clarified a lot of that already. number one, he said the evidence he looked at had nothing to do with russia. he told o reilly that last night and other thing he said if they have to go to the executive branch once or twice a week for intelligence because they can t get documents to the house. there s a secure room at congress so i m not sure why he couldn t read them there. bill: that s what he said unless you re calling him a
intelligence background but i think things like this are best done quietly. not weekly. but quietly. i think teddy roosevelt had it right, speak softly and carry a big stick. and i would not have advised making this a big public show. but the retaliation itself, yes, we had to do something when something like that is done to us. i do get concerned that the russians might escalate it going after electricity grids and so forth the way they have against ukraine and others. and but we can t just sit here quietly and not do anything if something like this happens to us. but the fact it was and is such a being public big public show. there is a political motive from the obama administration in terms of making this very much a show? well, one has to suspect that
