martha: the white house has announced that the president will hold his first formal press conference at the white house in ten months. it s going to happen wednesday at 4:00. that will be appointment viewing. we ll be there. so far, we don t expect big policy shift because of what we re hearing in the tea leaves from washington. the latest moves seem to be digging in deeper on their existing policies. like what? like more covid money? another go-around at build back better and also they say the way they want to turn the tide here is to go back to shifting on police reform. or backing police reform. often, when the president hit as rough patch, he turns to the old staff shake-up. so is that coming? is the president planning any sort of staff shake-up or changes at the white house given recent setbacks. we re continuing to fight for
the timing of all of that days before the speech grady mentioned law enforcement. funding. this is by the way the chairman of the joint chiefs. let s listen and hear. just having conversations with lawmakers. funding the police. a big applause line. here s the thing. the president has very low approval rating on every major issue he talked about tonight and so there were a lot a different topics. illegal immigration surge at the border, inflation at a 40 year high, surging crime in big cities, energy costs on the rise even now work with ukraine. it was a choice this white house had. some big new policy initiatives or a big shift in policy or a new sales pitch for the same policy. there were some new projects in there. i didn t hear a big policy shift. and arguably the sales page is roughly the same minus the three words, build back better. legislation stalled on
announced its now able to relax its covid travel restrictions, after 18 months. fully vaccinated australians but not tourists will be allowed to fly into new south wales from november without having to quarantine. the australian prime minister scott morrison has welcomed the news. this is further demonstration of australians getting vaccinated is enabling them to do more and more and more. new south wales is hitting 80% double dose vaccination rates. here in this city, it is turning into one of the more vaccinated cities in the world today. and that is a great achievement for australia and, in particular, those right across greater sydney. and it has been hard fought and hard won, and that s why i welcome the fact that this is a further sign of the national plan coming into effect and allowing australians to start reclaiming so many of the things that have been taken from them throughout this pandemic. 0ur sydney correspondent shaimaa khalil told me more about the new changes. a
