there, there are some people impressive in the opposition, nom are not. some are people we wanted to be associated with, some not. there s here too cause for some concern. i say it again, we had to do something but i m not confidence is not inspired by the events of the last couple days. i wonder if i could briefly get to you answer a final question. what s your view of the president s decision not to go formally to congress and seek their support for this effort? i happen to be someone who believes in the strong presidency, especially in the case of foreign policy, especially in the case of fast-moving situations. if you re going to launch a major war, you do have to go to congress and have a big national debate. i think when time is rough, when humanitarian crisises are looming, i think we have to give the president some room to act. i sort of think size with the executive branch on this. david brooks, thanks so much for joining us. thank you. and when we come back, radia
high office, then i will announce that at the appropriate time. but for now, you know i want to join other who s are sayin saying. no. peaceful about ideas that is what makes america exceptional. we won t allow that to be stifled by a tragic event that s happened in arizona. it was we can all we should all gather around, if you will in order to condemn violence but not to allow to it stifle debate in america. sean: governor almost from the second you re on the national stage you ve been loved by many and you ve been a lightning rod in the public arena. when moments like this happen do you find yourself saying to yourself maybe i m going stay out of the big national debate? do you ever have moments of doubt? perhaps feeling that you d like to not deal with this the
in those classrooms and i don t think any parent anywhere in the city should be forced to make that decision. now, you were doing this under the power you have in a new contract. this is part of a big national debate. prior, most teachers contracts have seniority. the more senior teachers get to stay and the more junior get the hook. explain this and why you think it is important as this debate goes across the country. right now there is a time of contracting budgets all across the nation and the part of the problem is that when you have to cut budgets if you have to do layoffs normally those layoffs are done by seniority so it s last in first out which means oftentimes school districts are in a position where they re having to fire, sometimes very talented new teachers and furthermore because new teachers make the least amount of money you have to fire more of them and lose more jobs in order to make up that differential. and we believe that quality is the thing that matters most
