wabc-tv, new york. reporter: someone left a dime for a memorial, and inside, a joke about calling home once in a while. joan loves her son s friend. and she sees them every year. i come here on the 10th so that i miss all of the hoopla and the crowd because it s difficult to find some peace and some quiet time to celebrate my son. reporter: it is quieter here than at the big memorial held on the 11th, and here they understand the desire to remove politics at least this one day from the memory of september 11th. when it comes to politics or anything about it, i just disregard it, stay way from it. reporter: the congressman is one of the politicians associated with the fight for justice and security after september 11th. and he says the families should decide what the service should include. i think it is important to keep the politics out. how the mayor does it, how the governor does it, i know there s a dispute going on.
