The area, known as ‘Anaeho‘omalu Kapalaoa, is listed as priority No. 1 in the 2023 annual report of the Hawai‘i County Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Commission.
Firearm registration activity increased dramatically over the course of the 24 years for which these data have been systematically compiled and reported.
It is not possible at this time to know if this increase in activity will lead to an eruption in the near future or simply remain confined below ground.
