Local firefighters donate gear to Firefighters Without Borders Canada

Article content Although the decommissioned gear is in good condition and suitable for service, it is timed-out for use in Canada after 10 years. Without organizations like Firefighters Without Borders Canada, the gear – with a replacement value in the hundreds of thousands of dollars – would likely end up in a landfill. FWB Canada President Bob Dubbert said the Vancouver-based charity has carried out 19 firefighting training missions overseas. Over the years, the organization has sent over 100 fire trucks and ambulances overseas. Four thousand tons of gear has been shipped. FWB Canada has also donated gear to several Canadian First Nations due to more relaxed regulations in those jurisdictions. Dubbert said most of the gear is in pristine condition, adding some of it has seen hard use with good maintenance.
