we should take him at his word he wants to continue to expand. president biden showed up on day 97 with continued half measures. we have been behind and weak. i don t understand why we begin to unleash massive sanctions. this administration hasn t demonstrated the resolve it is willing to do. martha: you said he won t care about sanctions? is it the swift bank transactions? any sanctions that would change putin s actions at this point? you can do enough that you can begin to make this hard for him, difficult for the people at home. whether it will deter him, sanctions are one single tool. the big focus on swift, i remember with iran the europeans
trying to go net zero by the end of the century. the big focus on his last stop is on the refugee crisis with the u.s. announcing it will accept up to 100,000 ukrainian refugees, and also helping these countries that have accepted this influx of more than 4 million refugees, and president biden hoping to put a personal face on the refugee crisis by meeting individually with some of the refugees as well as humanitarian workers doing their best in poland and other countries in russia s backyard to take care of their ukrainian neighbors. the president is in the air on his way to poland as we speak. josh letterman in poland, thank you, josh. and it s a very busy couple of days and announcements from the white house, and what comes
hello, mark. reporter: good afternoon to you. the president is back here at the white house. he was spending his weekend in delaware, came back about a half hour ago and, obviously, there s going to be a big focus on what the president will say when he goes oversees this week overseas this week. if we started shouting questions at president biden as he arrived, he chose not to talk, but we are expecting an update from the white house on the president s travel plans later today including where he will physically go. press secretary jen psaki did put out a tweet, writing: we ll have details on the trip later today it will be focused on rallying support against president putin s invasion of ukraine, but there are no plans to travel into ukraine. it s also likely the u.s. and nato allies will discuss at length many ways to show russia that they re united and then defenses across eastern europe will be strengthened. nato s secretary general laid out his expectations earlier today on me

to benefit when prices go up. but actually when these wholesale because of energy goes down they don t reduce prices. so they are able to bank those extra profits. i think a windfall tax on energy companies is a really interesting proposal and it s worth looking at. but that alone is not going to get us out of this cost of living crisis. i think in order to do that we need to, it comes back to what were saying before, energy cost is one part of the solution but there has to be a massive political focus on housing cost. it isjust unacceptable that people face the highest rates in europe in this country and makes living in this country and makes living in this country unsustainable if you re working in a minimum wagejob and you ve got kids. this got to be a big focus on. we got to ask questions about why low paid parents, some of them have lost thousands of pounds a year over the last decade as a result of cuts from the governments tax credits to support childcare. these are not
