president speak, some told cnn they did like desantis, but want to give trump one more chance. true trump voters are going to stay with trump. he s already proven himself so we know what he s capable of doing and ron desantis he is an awesome governor, i love him as a governor, i just think it s not his time. i think mr. desantis should wait his turn and he s a good good governor, you know, and i think he would make a great president as well, but he s got to wait his turn and let president trump do this again. we re joined now by cnn political commentator s.e. cupp. good to have you on this morning. good morning. so some interesting numbers in new cnn polling this morning, it shows virtually a dead heat among republican voters between trump and desantis, 40% say trump is their first choice, 36% say ron desantis is their first choice, you see a big dropoff to
buttigieg, harris and then a big dropoff. and a bunch that aren t even registering. some of the key divides, number one, racial divide. we ve been talking about it. they break it down in this poll, white and nonwhite. nonwhite includes black, includes his tannic, includes asian. it s not broken into a lot of individual groups, but you can see biden doing better with nonwhite voters. we ve seen him doing better with black voters than white voters in particular. buttigieg in particular, big dropoff for him when you go from white voters to nonwhite voters. perhaps notably, elizabeth warren here, double digits with nonwhite voters. that s an area where like buttigieg he s strugglshe s str not as much. age gap here. huge, huge, age gap. among those under 50, sanders is up almost two to one over biden. flip it around, 50-plus, that
this abc news/washington post poll, brutal. is that the start of a big dropoff. that is the big question heading into labor day week end. guess what, labor day recess folks don t think we re going to get that for an answer. he knows it s going to be closer down in the mid 30s. up next, as we re saying, get ready for the ads, for the ralli rallies, for the debates. kicking in after this holiday weekend. we re going to dig into how they re trying to survive it. you re watching hard ball.
up being true in wisconsin and michigan. those are the states where she tried to get a recount. had her votes gone to clinton we would have won. maybe our travel schedule had been different, we could have won. but what we think accounts for the big dropoff i m talking about a big dropoff, like five to two points in each of these states, is the comey letter. and that isn t to say that there s not things that our campaign could have done better or differently or in retrospect that we would do differently. i have dreams that i understand we have a problem, we have a week to fix them and then i wake up and it s not true. so there s a lot more that we could have done but we had accounted for all of our challenges and our problems and we were positioned to win and i think that comey letter was just it was one thing too many to absorb. what is your opinion of why director comey did what he did?
